A Love for Dogs, A Passion for Training
Our Story
Rob’s Dogs can trace its beginning to Los Angeles in the early 1980s. That’s where Rob’s father, a dog trainer himself, lived and who would pass on his knowledge and experience to Rob while he would visit during the summer and for holidays. Like most young boys, Rob loved dogs, but he never understood the importance of training, or its ability to transform dogs and their owners, until he met a dog named Luke.
Back home in North Dakota, Rob’s neighbor had a German shepherd that was always tied up to a tree outside. The neighbor was well-intentioned, but her dog, Luke, would run away if he wasn’t tied up and wasn’t well-enough behaved to be an inside dog. Rob felt bad for Luke and asked his neighbor if he could take the dog for a walk. The neighbor agreed, and over time Rob began working with Luke on basic commands like sit, stay, and come. Luke’s owner was so happy that the dog listened, but Luke would only listen to Rob. Fortunately, Rob was an excellent and patient teacher, even at a young age, and he showed the owner how to give Luke commands and encourage the dog to listen to her. After a short time, Luke was listening to his owner perfectly.
With his new behavior, Luke wasn’t tied up to the tree anymore but was in the house with his owner where he belonged. The neighbor was also taking the dog for walks and bringing him to events around town. Luke’s owner was so happy that she wrote a letter to the local paper in North Dakota where Rob lived. Soon people were calling Rob to train their dogs.
Rob loves seeing the joy people have when their dogs listen for the first time, like his neighbor and her dog, Luke. Dogs bring us so much joy already, just as they are, but there is an even deeper and more incredible connection that can be created between dogs and their owners. More than party tricks and cute behaviors, teaching dogs to obey and respect their owners can forge a deep bond that only strengthens with time.
If you are struggling with your dog, or want to set them up for a life of happiness and safety, Rob’s Dogs can help. We help dogs learn how to behave, and in doing so, help owners establish deep, meaningful relationships with their pets. Contact us today or schedule your in-person evaluation to take the first step.
